FILLING THE CRACKS investigates familiar objects and domestic space as a projection of oneself and were exhibited in a joint exhibition with Angela Findlay in 2011. They find equivalents in apparently mundane everyday things and situations, ones that hold memories and present tactile links to the inevitable continuum of history. Quiet stories of the past which act as constant reminders of our fragile certainties

WORK IN PROGRESS This section includes images that follow various lines of enquiry some into my own shifting circumstances but also into the changing nature of France where I now live. They frequently exploit my interest in instant film materials and historic processes as well as the interaction of the content with these alternatives to digital imaging

LIVES OF OTHERS "As dark shadowy outlines we stumble through an unrehearsed life, some with dear friends and family, but all of us alone. Just as previous occupants thought their time was forever, their world happened just once and is gone."

COLLABORATION This is all recent work made at my house in south west France with the artist Angela Findlay. The images are all formed by a response to the location and its very particular atmosphere and are part of an ongoing project that also involves painting, text and video

To explore the boundaries of photography John continues to employ various methods and materials ranging from Fox Talbot's calotypes, or salt prints, to large format instant film and collaborative work with the painter, Angela Findlay
